PART TWO. EXPLORING.
Raphael Jérôme Schmitt
Schmitt is an artist and designer based in Switzerland, best known for combining traditional and modern techniques to showcase his interest in Swiss typography and digital innovation spanning different disciplines. Schmitt transformed many of his designs in collaboration with Maison Pierre Frey into textiles, bridging the gap between historical artistry and modern aesthetics.
His design and labelling system for VASR garments (part of a wider collection of outcomes for VASR), where the tags are printed onto cotton fabric and designed deliberately to curl up with wear and wash, is my favourite Schmitt project.
Schmitt has a plethera of visual identity projects such as, Stadion Letzigrund, Teletech, and SIMOUI, as well as typefaces such as, Thalwil Grotesk and Arho Condensed.
